Q: What are your qualifications for Hab Techs?
A: While we prefer a candidate with a college education, we will consider
the state’s minimum requirement of at least 18 years old with a minimum of
a high school education. The applicant must also possess a valid driver’s
license and current auto insurance, a current TB test and, preferably one
year’s experience working with the special needs population. We also
conduct a thorough background investigation.
Q: Do you provide back-up in case my worker can’t work?
A: We do all possible to have back-up workers available, even if it means
that Page, herself, fills in. However, we do not simply “assign” someone
to work with your family member. We much prefer to have a substitute whom
you have met, are familiar with, and who is familiar with you and the
client.
Q: What about bad weather days?
A: We encourage you to discuss a plan with the worker in advance for those
occasions when roads may become hazardous. We’re sure you would not want
them to jeopardize themselves in an attempt to get to your home.
Q: Are workers allowed to bring their own children or anyone else to work
with them?
A: No. They are responsible for one-on-one supervision and assistance for
the client. Also, it is against Medicaid regulations for them to be
responsible for anyone other than the client. Therefore, please do not
allow them to take care of client siblings while working. Additional
people, whether client family members or worker family members, can be a
distraction to their focus with the client.
Q: Does Hamilton Services provide activities for the clients?
A: We sure do!! Check out our calendar page. Our Activities Coordinator
schedules several regular ongoing activities, including crafts and
cooking, which take place in our office. there are also lots of
community activities throughout each month, such as roller skating,
dinner out, and the Children's Museum. We schedule special events on "no
school" days, during the summer and when something fun that our clients
would enjoy (such as the circus) comes to town.
Most activities are free. Hamilton Services
generally picks up the majority of the tab for the events we sponsor, but
occasionally there will be a modest fee to help defray the cost of admission
and/or food. On some field trips, we will ask the client to bring a sack
lunch. Our calendar page will give you all the details.
We do request that you make reservations for your
family member to participate in any activities. Often we need to purchase
supplies and/or food, and we want to be sure to have enough for everyone.
In addition, Hamilton Services has a membership to the Children’s Museum,
Natural Science Center and the Bryan Family YMCA, allowing our clients and
their workers to participate whenever they wish.
